Arashiyama is one of the top places to visit if you’re in Kyoto, mainly because it’s a peaceful and serene place, but also because there’s a pretty decent unagi restaurant very near the main station called Hirokawa.

This post on Shuhaku isn’t even going to be a proper review, for 2 reasons:

  • the food, while decent, didn’t really tickle my tastebuds so I don’t remember it that well.
  • the chef didn’t speak a shred of English and the menu he gave me was completely in Japanese too. Some of the food was obvious from sight though, but the cooking method was not so clear.

Kichi Kichi is located in an tiny alley of an alley in Kyoto, so narrow that you can barely walk two-aside. The restaurant’s red signage however, is eye-catching enough to spot from either end of the alley.

Singaporeans are not the only ones who queue up like crazy for good food. In Northern Higashiyama of Kyoto, the udon shop Yamamoto Menzou makes both locals and tourists alike queue up like crazy.
