The Dirty Stall

Asari Honten

I’ve always wanted to try sukiyaki but never actually tried to actively seek out a good place for it.

It just so happened that there was a pretty well-known sukiyaki restaurant in Hakodate called Asari Honten. I think they also got a Michelin star in the 2012 guide.

It has been around for more than a century, and it’s wildly popular so reservations are highly recommended. I was extremely lucky to get a walk-in table though!

One of the special things about Asari is that they offer A5 kuroge wagyu for the sukiyaki lunch sets at very reasonable prices.

A lot of vegetables and noodles besides the beef!

Glorious sheets of A5 wagyu!!!

The beef goes well dipped in raw egg too!

Finish off with yuzu sorbet.

Another thing is that Asari is actually owned and run by a wagyu butchery.

I really wished I could have bought the whole slab back home…
